Course Overview

An integral part of your university’s Laboratory Safety Program is the Chemical Hygiene Plan. This plan is designed to protect you from chemical and physical hazards present in your instructional and research laboratories. A component of this plan is engineering controls. Engineering controls eliminate or reduce exposure to chemical or physical hazards through the use or substitution of engineered machinery or equipment. Topics covered in this safety video include: Chemical hygiene plan, Engineering controls i.e. laboratory fume hoods, glove boxes, local exhaust systems, laboratory fume hoods, passageways and aisles, emergency exits, exits, stairs, and passageway, fire doors, glare-free lighting, bench tops, fully functional sink with a drain and pressurized water, housekeeping, emergency showers and eye wash stations, first aid supplies, spill supplies, fire suppression equipment, and chemical fume hoods.
